At the Beach—Ron and Hermione
“Ron, wake up!” Hermione threw swim trunks at Ron.
“Why?” Ron yawned. “It’s only eight.”
“Only?! You said we’d be on the beach by nine.”
Ron slipped into his swim trunks and pulled the sunscreen bottle towards him and lathered it onto his arms. Hermione pulled on her bathing suit and walked out to get breakfast. Ron followed her.
“Do you have any last-minute ideas for the wedding?” Ron asked, beating Hermione to the question that she asked every day since he had proposed to her.
“I think I want to add a touch of shimmery gold to my dress.” Hermione sipped coffee from her favorite mug.
“Interesting idea. Can you do that so last minute?” Ron was trying to stay on her good side. She got mad easily when she was stressed.
“Of course. I’ll get Luna to help. She’s good at that stuff.”
“Really?” Ron was remembering how Luna had once worn a hideous hat to a Quidditch game when they were young.
Hermione ignored Ron and left to pack her beach bag. Ginny came down the stairs from her bedroom wearing a red bikini with a blue sarong cross tied around her neck.
“Hey Ron.” She smiled before running off to Hermione’s room, no doubt to borrow some sort of magazine to read in the sand.
Neville and Harry walked into the kitchen and sat on a barstool at the counter. “You want to go now? They’ll be a while. We can save them a nice place.” Asked Neville.
“No! No, no. I’m coming.” Luna rushed down the stairs in a blue one-piece. She had a ridiculously large hat on her head. The brim was flopping everywhere as she rushed to gather her belongings. “To the beach!” she finally said. “Bye guys! We’re off!” she yelled to the other two girls.
Ron hopped on his toes when he touched the hot sand. He set a blanket down on the sand and assembled the umbrella beside it. Minutes later someone tiptoed behind Ron and threw their hands around his face.
“Guess who!” a cheerful voice rang out.
“Cindy Crawford?” Ron asked jokingly.
“You’re funny.” Hermione came around and sat in the sand beside him. Ginny came hopping down the beach to their setup. She gained speed and started running towards Harry. Harry, who was staring out into the sea, didn’t notice Ginny and was taken by surprise when she tackled him. Harry settled her into his lap and patted her stomach. Ron watched them, wondering if he and Hermione would ever have children. He knew Hermione wanted kids, but he still sometimes wondered if he would be a good dad. Sensing Ron’s distress, Hermione slipped her hand in his and whispered in his ear, “You’ll be a great father.”
Ron loved how they could communicate without words. How they could understand each other without speaking.

Ron stood in the kitchen of the cottage, sipping milk as Hermione went over wedding plans. All morning had been talk about wedding plans. Ron had become angered by the constant babble of wedding this and wedding that. She wouldn’t stop talking. Finally he couldn’t take it anymore and shouted, “Hermione, SHUT UP!” The minute the words slipped from his lips he regretted it, but was glad to have gotten it off his chest.
Hermione stared at her fiancé, hardly believing her ears. “Excuse me?” she felt the blood rush to her face as she stood there in incredulity and rage. “Ron, do you realize that in two weeks, TWO WEEKS, we are going to be getting married. Don’t you understand how important it is to finish all the planning? Is that something your little, itsy-bitsy brain can comprehend?!” she said, voice shaking with anger.
Ron yelled back at her, “Well you’re starting to remind me of your mom!” He was referring to her very organized mother. Hermione stared at him, fury blazing in her eyes. Ron had clearly struck a nerve.
“Well at least my mother can AFFORD to pay for our wedding!” she screamed. Her voice boomed throughout the house, sending doors flying open.
Harry emerged with Ginny jogging by his side from the front porch, Harry with a newspaper in his hand and Ginny clutching “What to Expect When You’re Expecting” in her arms. Neville and Luna came out of their room, Luna in her bra and underwear and Neville with a sheet wrapped around his waist. They dashed down the stairs and into the kitchen.
“What’s going on?” Harry demanded. “We heard yelling,” said Ginny
Ron ignored them. He stared at Hermione, face twisted in rage, hands clenched into fists. But there was something else. His eyes almost seemed to be glittering with tears. Under his anger, he looked like a hurt puppy.
“Hermione,” Ron began, speaking slowly. “of all the people I could have expected to use that as an argument,” his voice was steady, although he looked as though he could burst out crying at any moment. He shook his head. “I NEVER expected that person would be you.”
“What?” Luna asked.
Ron turned to Ginny. “She made fun of mum for not having much money.” He whispered the word money, ashamed.
Ginny looked at Hermione, looking hurt. Hermione widened her eyes.
“Ginny, I didn’t mean to—I mean he was—Ginny please don’t be angry with me,” Hermione stuttered.
“S’fine,” Ginny muttered, staring at her feet. Both she and Hermione looked on the verge of tears.
Ron stared at the woman he thought he loved. She looked back at him. A tear slid down his cheek and he turned around and walked away.
“Ron, wait!” Hermione grabbed his shoulder gently. Ron didn’t even look back at her, but spoke three words. “The wedding’s off.” Then he walked into his bedroom and shut the door.
Hermione stared at him as he walked off. Tears flooded her eyes and poured down her face. “I can’t believe I’ve ruined this.” She said. The others just looked at her. Neville and Luna looked at her with pity, Harry looked at her with disappointment as he held Ginny, who was looking at her with the saddest look on her face.
“Ginny I’m so sorry,” Hermione cried.
“Doesn’t matter. I’m not upset with you,” Ginny said unconvincingly.
And they all walked off, wishing they would’ve never agreed to staying together at the beach.
So here it is! The third installment to my HP at the beach series. Please read the other two if you haven't already or it won't make sense.

I worked for a while on this because I wasn't really sure what the plot would be. But now I've figured it out and I also know what I'm going to do for the Neville/Luna story and the ending. I hope you guys like this one!
